Application

An application, commonly called an app or program, is a form of software that allows specific tasks to be performed on a device. "App" is a common term for an application. Applications run within the operating system until the application is closed.

Types of Applications

Applications can vary in numerous ways, ranging from the way they are developed, for whom they are created, to the platform they are intended for. In general, there are three primary types of apps: 

• Native Applications 
  A native application is a software program that is specifically developed for use on a particular platform or device. It is designed for use on a specific device and its corresponding operating system so that it can utilise specific hardware and software features. 

• Web Applications 
  A web application is a program stored on an external server and provided over the internet via a web browser. Web services are, therefore, classified as web apps, and many websites include web apps. 

• Hybrid Applications 
  A hybrid app is an application that combines elements of both native apps and web applications. Essentially, hybrid apps are web apps that are wrapped in a native app. 

Examples of Apps

Today, there are millions of apps available for download on various platforms. Below are some well-known apps that many users and entrepreneurs use in their daily lives: 

Slack

Slack is a workplace communication tool. The main functionality revolves around talking to other people, but there are also add-ins that can be added to get more out of Slack. There are two chat methods in Slack: channels (group chat) and direct message or DM (one-on-one chat). 

Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word is an app available in different formats and on multiple platforms. It can be downloaded from the website. It can also be downloaded on a phone or tablet, although the app is quite limited on these devices. To use Word, a subscription must be purchased. 

Adobe Photoshop

This is an app that can be used on mobile devices, desktops, and tablets. Photoshop is a graphic program that can be used to edit and create photos and other digital images. Adobe has developed a smaller app for mobile users: Adobe Photoshop Express.
